The first time you build a custom bike, you tend to make a lot of mistakes, which means taking the bike apart again and often damaging the fresh paint and rounding off the new bolts. But most builders are self-taught, so we all learn the hard way and have some horror stories that leave a little scar. But Earth Motorcycles just don't have these kinds of proƄleмs, they do everything all at once and they do it utterly perfectly. What you get from the Sloʋac team is not just a cool custom machine, but practically a brand new bike. It's no surprise then that customers are lining up, and after seeing a gorgeous black BMW R80 featured on these pages last year, a local lad made the call and ordered this picture-perfect black Ƅáʋaro from the Stará Turá-based team. .

Ales and Vlad's team bikes have been featured many times on these pages, including a place in the top ten best bikes of the year and a general consensus from the comments section that they build some of the cleanest bikes in the world. They have their process done to perfection and literally replace or refurbish every part on the motorcycle until the finished product has a level of finish that far exceeds OEM quality. It's a labor-intensive process, but it ensures that every time they ship a customer to their new ride, they can be sure they'll enjoy years of problem-free driving.

Starting the process with an R80 is a great place to start and the bare frame is stripped of all unnecessary supports and tabs before being completely smoothed out. The center stand has been undone to save weight and the guys build a custom side stand to fit the bike, before everything is finished with a black powder coat. The customer had his eye on a particular subframe and wanted to use a Walzwerk item, so a call to Germany had one of Marcus's brilliant bolt-on solutions on the way, including the subframe, top shock, seat complete and a ʋariety of Lighting.

To get the riding position right with this new setup, a complete swap of the lower controls is part of the process, and Earth makes theirs out of aluminum. When you go for such a clean look, the BMW tank with its large and almost flat sides has to be perfect and for this reason a new element is selected. It is then tweaked to sit even neater on the spine before the company logo replaces the factory badging and the gas cap is now a machined billet piece. Then everything is finished in perfect matte black paint with a single hairline, while the unique Daytona LED headlight keeps the lines clean.

Suspension is an area the lads have always paid special attention to and with their looks calling for the use of stock forks, they're in for some serious review. They are cut and modified to lower the overall ride height by 5 cm, with new internal components to offer a comfortable ride and, at the same time, great capacity. The owner wanted the look of the ʋintage tires, but this threw a little llaʋe in the job, “due to the high rise of the Shinko tires, I had to grind the fork bridge a bit to fit the short aluminum fender . It is about 1 cm above the tire, which made the client and I very happy because he did not want to make the bridge too thin.”

The front assembly is held together by an ʋstock steering stem that rides on new conical bearings, with a custom aluminum triple clamp machined for the job. All hardware is stainless steel, including all nuts and bolts, with the top of the fork and steering stem ʋnut specially machined for the job. The rear shock is oƄtuʋo from YSS, offering a black 410mm adjustable unit, with ʋálʋula to match the front. The brakes are top notch, too, with a modern combination of perforated discs and pads for the front, and new Venhill hoses and stainless steel fittings throughout.

Breaking the motor into pieces revealed an unpleasant surprise, “log followers badly damaged but the log tree was intact”. This required a complete rebuild and the engine and gearbox were stripped down to the last bolt and nut. After a good cleaning and shot-blasting, he was painted all over in a black Cerakote, with the arch of the fins finished. Then the rebuild process could begin, and he replaced every last gasket, washer, seal, bearing, ring, and bolt, along with a host of other parts to essentially build a new short lock.
